Right now, the world is facing challenging times. Every day, you receive an influx of negative information, which only serves to increase the levels of stress, anxiety, and uncertainty about the future. It’s time to take action by guarding yourself from negativity and protecting your mind.

Even though the mind has no single physical location, we have heard of the subconscious mind and the conscious mind.

“The subconscious governs the body/mind functions. It functions in every cell of our body. This is the part of our mind that is the power center. It does not recognize time or space, only vibrations. It processes images, not words.

The subconscious mind has no ability to reject a thought. It accepts everything that is impressed upon it. It is totally deductive. It operates on autopilot. It never sleeps; it is always on duty recording everything. In fact, it turns out that the subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between that which is real in your life and that which you are imagining.”

“The conscious governs body/mind actions. This is the part of the mind that has the ability to think and can originate thought. It is connected to all our senses. Through our senses we connect to the external world and it is reflected back to our conscious mind as an image.

It can accept or reject any idea to which it is exposed. It can make choices. This is where our free will lies as well as both inductive and deductive thinking.” So, this mind can be the gatekeeper for your subconscious mind and can help with protecting your mind.

You may think it is OK to keep up with the COVID-19 news but 99.9% of the bad news does not help you but instead enters you as fear and it goes right into your subconscious mind. Fear ingested affects your biology, even if you don’t think it is making you more afraid, it is.

Negative news is coming at us through social media hype, the news hype and even family conversations. It is time to be hyper-protective about your mind and consciously decide what you are going to listen to or read. You have to protect and feed your mind appropriately.

In conversations feed the productive life-giving wolf not the fearful wolf. There’s a Cherokee story about two wolves, and it serves as an excellent parable.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Another essential right now is structure. Routines, schedules and disciplines need to remain. You can’t bring health to others if you are not healthy yourself. You need to be the lighthouse and focus on joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. Stand guard at the door of your mind and be vigilant with what you let in. This time can be the greatest test of your life and this can be your finest hour.

To your success,

  1. Great post! Was just talking with someone (another MKEer) about protecting my mental space. Love the reminder of the wolf story too. Perfect fit for right now! Hmmmm…. I think I’ll have to write about this topic too. 🙂 Thank you! Stay well.
